D’espairsRay was formed on September 9, 1999. They played their first concert on September 24, but waited until October to release their first single “Kumo”. It was such a successful single, that it was later re-released in 2001. The band continued to release new works and their fan base grew. In 2003, their single “Garnet” reached first place in the Indie Oricon rankings. The band started to get invited to visual kei events like the Beauti-fools Featival 2003. D’espairsRay success has continued to grow over the years. In 2005, the band went on two tours in the United States. Later that year, the band also visited Germany and France in a tour with Kagerou.

Thoughts
I was rather surprised by D’espairsRay. Although they are technically a visual kei band, their music has some very strong hints of metal in it. The music has a very dark, eery quality to it. Hizumi also incorporates a lot of harsh vocals into the songs too. I’m not too big of a fan, but if you interested in visual kei or metal, then try some of the samples below.
