YOUR FINGERPRINTS PLEASE ?
Hundreds of immigrants queued to have their fingerprints taken and their names entered into a registry at St Anthony’s Anglican Church in Reiger Park, east of Johannesburg, yesterday so that authorities could identify them should they be killed.
Sombre Malawians, Mozambicans and Zimbabweans patiently waited in line to have their names entered in a local register and their fingerprints taken before being issued with coloured wrist tags.
Their fingerprints were entered in a local data base in order to identify them — in the event of being killed — while the tags ensure that police can spot them from a distance if they venture back into the now calm, but unpredictable, settlement.
