MUSIC STYLES 101: CHRISTCORE
Christian hardcore (also known as Christcore) is a form of hardcore and metalcore music and a subgenre of punk rock and heavy metal, respectively, played by bands where the musicians promote Christian beliefs. The extent to which their lyrics are explicitly Christian varies between bands. Many inside the Christian music scene view Christcore in a negative light, or feel that Christian hardcore as a genre is a passing fad.
Subgenres
Spirit-filled Christcore is a brand of hardcore typified by bold faith based lyrics, a typical hardcore aesthetic and often a Straight edge mentality. This brand of Christian Hardcore saw its rise and fall in the 90s with bands like Focused, Unashamed, Overcome,Living Sacrifice, early Zao, and Strongarm.
Although the Spirit-Filled Christcore movement fell into obscurity in the late 90s, many Christian hardcore bandscontinued to include religious material in their lyrics. Christianity and hardcore punk are sometimes considered to be contradictory due to the conflict between punk’s anti-authoritarian message and the prominence of authority figures in Christianity.
Christian anarchism addresses this somewhat, as it stresses rejection of worldly authority in favor of Godly authority.
The idea of “salvation” has also been manifested into participatory activities like xDeathstarx’s conduction of Baptismal rites at a recent show.

Atheism, Satanism, Autonomy,
It’s all the fuckin’ same,
Those straight-edge Christ-core motherfuckers,
They don’t know shit,
Their just looking for easy answers,
And they’re too close minded
To look anywhere beyond their local church,
Or whatever the ignorant masses say is true

Isnt it interesting though that they have adopted/copied a style/genre of music that is so anti their own beliefs and simply added thier Christian based lyrics. Does this development indicate that they actually like the “sound” of death metal? Christcore has all the components of hardcore metal/punk except for their lyrics component. (in most cases u cant hear what they are screaming about anyway) Christcore is hardly original. Neither is death metal. Both have developed out of rock and punk.
